The diversity, richness and allure of tartan is a triumph of imagination on the part of weavers and designers over centuries and represents "one of the greatest archives of national design in the world". The wealth of colour and sett provides a tartan to suit every taste, mood and occasion, whoever or wherever the wearer. Redshank exists to celebrate this cornucopia of design.

Clan tartans, family tartans, district tartans, commemorative tartans, military tartans, national tartans, local tartans, club, society and corporate tartans – there are over 4000 registered. That so many tartans are imbued with a significance and a provenance of real social, historic and emotional value adds both personal pride and a genuine sense of community to the wearing of such fabric. Redshank shares this pride and is at the service of the communities identified by their tartans.

Tweeds and tartans from the Hebrides, leathers and hides from the Isle of Arran, cashmere from Moray, Harris Tweed, fine wools from the Shetlands and the Scottish Borders, country tweeds from Aberfeldy, fine tartans from Angus, the Borders and Wester Ross, Redshank Scotland is happily outside the mainstream of ‘high street’ highland dress and works energetically to source its tartans, tweeds, wools and leathers from Scotland’s smaller weavers and tanners whose work is as rich and individual as both the Redshank design and the personalities of those who wear our garments.
